RE-OPEN 3/5/2008 POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT TITLE RESEARCH ASSOCIATE DEPT MATERIALS ENGINEERING
REG þ PART TIME þ STARTING RATE or SALARY RANGE $45,000.00 JOB DUTIES: Provide technical support to electron and scanning microscopy in the Materials Engineering Department. The salary is partially funded with soft money which is dependent on SEM usage. This is a 12 month position which pays at 75% time base salary including benefits with the ability to receive additional 25% salary through additional microscope usage, research and/or teaching.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree required: MS in Engineering/Science, preference given to Materials majors. PhD desired in Materials Engineering or other Engineering/Science with preference given to Materials majors. SEM and EDS Operation, experience evaluating metals and/or ceramic materials required. Ability to teach users how to operate SEM with EDS and prepare samples required. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software required. Knowledge of operation and application of at least one additional electron or scanning microscope (SAM preferred) including appropriate sample preparation required. Ability to bill and write reports for customers required. Ability to troubleshoot SEM, vacuum systems, and associated equipment desired. Ability to make minor repairs on SEM, vacuum systems, and associate equipment desired. Transcripts required.
