POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE PROJECT MANAGER DEPT R & ED/MRO
REGULAR þ FULL TIME þ
STARTING RATE or SALARY RANGE Negotiable
JOB DUTIES: The MROI Project Manager will serve as manager for the delivery of the Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer. Will set timelines and budgets for MROI Projects. Monitor interferometer project's progress and adjust resource allocations to meet project milestones. Negotiation and monitoring of all interferometer project contracts. Oversight of MROI-dedicated project staff. Report project progress and spend to MRO Program Director. Coordinate with Project Managers for MRO Single Telescope, Site and Education projects. Coordinate with MROI external collaborators. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required in a scientific or engineering discipline. Masters degree or higher in the physical sciences or engineering preferred. Proven ability to manage substantial technical projects required. Experience with and use of professional management tools and procedures required. Experience of negotiation and monitoring of technical vendor contracts required. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills required. Familiarity with Earned Value Management Techniques desired. Experience with astronomical/optical/space science projects desired. Experience of management of technical projects in a university environment desired. Experience with NSF, NASA, or DoD contracts desired. Certification by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional desired. Transcripts required.
