REGULAR þ FULL TIME þ
STARTING RATE or SALARY RANGE Negotiable JOB DUTIES: The Program Director will serve as manager for the execution of the Magdalena Ridge Observatory program. Set timelines and budgets for MRO program. Review spend and progress of MRO program elements. Allocate program resources between program elements. Supervise MRO administrative office staff. Develop operations plan for observatory. Identify and nurture relationships with the astronomical and defense communities to find partners for MRO operations phase. Support Vice President of R&ED in acquisition of financing of MRO construction. Report on MRO program status to Vice President of R&ED, Office of Naval Research, and external collaborators. Other duties as required by the VP of R&ED
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical Engineering or scientific discipline. Master's degree desired. Proven ability to manage large technical projects required. Proven ability to bring large technical projects in on-time and within budget required. Experience with and use of professional management tools and procedures required. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required. Strategic approach to logistical, budget and risk management required. Experience with astronomical/optical/space science projects desired. Experience working in a university environment desired. Experience with NSF, NASA, or DoD contracts desired. Experience fundraising for large projects desired. Experience with philanthropic and peer-reviewed funding channels desired. Certification by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional desired. Transcripts required.
