POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

TITLE     ORDNANCE TECHNICIAN                 DEPT       EMRTC

JOB DUTIES:

Prepares and conducts explosives operations:  Retrieves and prepares explosives items and the equipment necessary to detonate the explosives items.  Transports explosive items and equipment to test site where equipment systems are setup and pre-tested.  Coordinates with test engineer/instrumentation as to times, method of initiation, sequences, etc.  Sets up explosive items, makes find connections, returns to instrumentation bunker, when all clear detonates explosive items, after detonation checks ground zero to check for complete detonation, allows personnel to leave bunker continue working.  Completes appropriate test paperwork. 

Prepares and conducts gun firing operations.  Retrieves and prepares test rounds as to specifications and the equipment necessary to conduct gun firing.  Transports test rounds and equipment to test site where equipment systems are set up and pre-tested.  Coordinates with test engineer/instrumentation as to times, method of initiation, sequences, etc.,   Loads rounds, makes final connections, returns to instrumentation bunker, when all clear fires gun, after firing assures gun is clear, allow personnel to leave bunker-continue working.  Completes appropriate test work.

Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) without variance.  Assures that procedures and safety regulations are followed.  Shares test safety responsibilities with test manager/engineer.

Operates equipment such as wreckers, forklifts, and front-end loaders for storage and cleanup purposes.  Uses mechanical hand tools, operates power tools, and special equipment.  Assists in inventorying, maintaining, organizing, and entering into computer database ordnance/explosive inventories as assigned by magazines or sections.  Performs maintenance on firing systems, guns, etc.

Attends safety meetings, acknowledges and abides by sick/annual leave policies, communicates with all essential personnel, presents a positive/professional attitude, acknowledges and abides by New Mexico Tech/EMRTC Safety policies/SOP’s/Security policies, etc.

Provides on-the-job training, as required, for the Ordnance personnel and personnel assisting in the execution of specific tasks.  Assists in other areas as needed and directed, task assignments are consistent with knowledge and abilities.  May supervise other personnel as directed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of EOD School, Indianhead Maryland or Graduate of Naval School of Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Elgin Air Force Base, Florida with no less than (4) years recent EOD experience required. Must be able to maintain a vigorous schedule with flexible hours. Must have working knowledge of personal computers.  A Department of Defense Clearance through Secret, to be obtained within reasonable time after employment.   A driver’s license valid in the State of New Mexico is required.  CDL with hazardous material endorsement to be obtained 6 months after employment. Positions employed at EMRTC are subject to a pre-employment drug screen.  An offer of employment is conditional on successfully passing the pre-employment drug screen.
