POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE MECHANICAL ENGINEER DEPT MAGDALENA RIDGE OBSERVATORY REG þ FULL TIME þ STARTING RATE or SALARY RANGE Negotiable
JOB DUTIES: The responsibility of the Mechanical Engineer is to support the project, mainly the mechanical engineering group, with mechanical design, development, procurements, installation, and operations along with the production of fabrication drawings. Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the Lead Mechanical Engineer and will interact as required with the Project Manager, system Architects and Project Scientist, and with the other Engineers and Scientist at MROI. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor' degree required in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of expertise desired. Proven ability to write engineering papers desired. Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a team environment required. Excellent presentation and written communications skills required. Computer programming skills desired. Proven ability to design, develop, and commission mechanical systems/components required. Proven ability to develop mechanical system/components for scientific applications desired. Observatory experience desired. Physical ability to work extensive periods at an altitude of 10,500 feet required. The candidate must be able to access ITAR restricted material, with the exception of a few countries worldwide of which the US has restricted export, all MROI staff will be qualified. The applicant must be living within one hour commute to the MRO interferometry facility on the ridge. Must have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Transcripts required for consideration.
