POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE LAB TECH II DEPT CHEMISTRY
REG þ FULL TIME þ STARTING RATE or SALARY RANGE $9.71 – $12.14
JOB DUTIES: Maintain the teaching stockroom and act as a stockroom manager. This includes managing the chemical stores within the stockroom; safe storage of chemicals, MSDS files, etc. Prepare laboratory exercises for student. This includes maintaining the needed instruments and apparatuses required for the teaching laboratories. Prepare and deliver chemical demonstrated for the lecture courses when needed. Prepare chemicals, supplies and equipment for departmental outreach activities such as the Science Olympiad, etc. Act as a departmental Safety Officer. Maintain safety equipment in the teaching and research labs. Insure departmental safety procedures are followed. Perform routine safety inspections. Work with appropriate University safety officers to insure the department’s safety procedures are in compliance with all appropriate regulations. Collect and dispose of departmental chemical waste appropriately. Receive and distribute departmental supplies. At the direction of the Department Chair or the Director of Laboratories, work with departmental faculty on special projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, write information and complete simple forms. High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition and math required. A degree in Chemistry is desired. Typing, computer literacy and basic mechanical skills are required. Communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with students are required.
